A tracked parcel from China currently takes a median of 8 days to the Netherlands, 9 to Belgium, 10 to Germany and 13 to Sweden, based on ParcelsApp data for the last 60 days through mid-October 2026. Most parcels land within 5 to 18 days. Sweden is the slow outlier at 8 to 21 days.

Key takeaways

  • Medians (last 60 days, data through 13 to 14 October 2026): NL 8 days, BE 9, DE 10, SE 13. Promise the typical range, not the median.
  • These figures already cover the period after the EU removed the EUR 150 duty exemption on 1 July 2026.
  • The last-mile carrier in the tracking shows which route was used: PostNL and Hermes routes ran faster than DHL routes in this data.
  • Shopify cannot calculate delivery dates for a fulfillment location in China, so write the estimate into your shipping rate name or description.
  • Add processing time on top of transit, and plan for peak season and Chinese New Year.

How long does a parcel from China to NL, BE, DE and SE really take in 2026?

The numbers below come from ParcelsApp, which publishes delivery times from completed parcels tracked on its site. Each page uses the last 60 days. The "typical range" is the middle 80% of completed journeys: the fastest 10% and slowest 10% are left out. ParcelsApp says the times "cover the whole journey", and it does not state whether it counts calendar or business days. All pages showed "Updated Oct 11, 2026" when checked on 16 October 2026.

They cover every China-origin parcel ParcelsApp tracked, so treat them as a market benchmark, not the speed of one supplier.

As a cross-check, Zendrop's own averages (business days, updated 21 May 2026) are NL 7.6, BE 9.4, DE 9.5 and SE 12.2 (Zendrop, as of 13 October 2026): the same order.

Why is Sweden slower than the Netherlands?

The data shows the gap but does not explain it. Sweden had about a fifth of the Dutch volume (2,070 against 11,427 deliveries), and the PostNord leg had a long tail up to 33 days. Lower volume usually means fewer direct lines, so parcels wait longer to be consolidated. That is a likely reason, not a measured one.

The practical point: quote Swedish customers a longer window than Dutch ones. One estimate for all of Europe will either scare off Dutch buyers or disappoint Swedish ones.

Which carriers deliver the last mile, and does it matter?

ParcelsApp notes that a service appearing in tracking "does not mean it handled the parcel for the entire delivery". The last-mile carrier is mostly a signal of which shipping line your parcel travelled on.

In this data, parcels that ended with PostNL in the Netherlands (median 7 days) and myHermes in Germany (7 days) were faster than those ending with DHL (10 and 11 days). In Belgium, Bpost (8 days) beat Colis Prive (10 days). Ask your fulfillment partner which line they book for each country, and compare it with these benchmarks. Flashfulfil's shipping page explains how carrier partners are used.

What adds days: processing, QC, customs or the carrier?

A customer counts from the moment they pay; tracking data counts the journey. Complaints start in the gap.

Processing. Shopify defines fulfillment time as the time between the order and handing the parcel to a carrier (Shopify Help, fulfillment time). That includes buying the item if it is not in stock, quality checks and packing. The guide on moving to bulk stock in China covers when that pays off.

Customs since July 2026. From 1 July 2026 the EUR 150 duty-free allowance for low-value parcels was eliminated. PwC, citing Council Regulation (EU) 2026/382, reports a temporary flat duty of EUR 3 per category of goods for IOSS and postal consignments until 1 July 2028 (PwC, 29 June 2026). Details such as per item versus per category, and any separate handling fee, should be checked against the official text. The time risk comes from data: vague or wrong product descriptions are more likely to cause holds. The medians above already fall after 1 July. The IOSS and EUR 3 duty guide explains the tax side. This is general information, not tax advice.

Peak season. Shopify lists holiday order spikes and customs holds among the main causes of delays (Shopify blog, shipping delays). In Europe, think late November through December.

Chinese New Year. In 2027 it falls on Saturday 6 February. SEKO Logistics expects the main shutdown around 30 January to 14 February 2027 and describes disruption from early January to mid-March (SEKO Logistics). Stock up early.

The last mile. Incomplete addresses are a common, avoidable delay (Shopify blog), so validate them at checkout.

How do I show honest delivery estimates in my Shopify store?

Shopify can show calculated delivery dates at checkout through transit time on flat shipping rates. But transit time is only available for fulfillment locations in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia and the United Kingdom, and only on the latest shipping settings (Shopify Help, transit time). Shopify's own definition of transit time also starts when the carrier collects the parcel, so it leaves out processing.

If your orders ship from China, the workable route is a custom flat rate with your own delivery description. Shopify notes that "custom flat rates won't display calculated delivery dates at checkout", so the text you write is the promise. Build it like this:

  1. Take the typical range for the country, not the median. For the Netherlands that is 5 to 16 days.
  2. Add your partner's processing time. Flashfulfil states a 24h processing time; for others, use what they confirm in writing.
  3. Round up and name the rate per country, for example "Tracked shipping to the Netherlands, usually 6 to 17 days".
  4. Repeat the same window on the product page, in the order confirmation and in the shipping policy.
  5. Recheck the benchmark every quarter and before peak season.

An honest, slightly long window beats a short one that generates "where is my order" tickets.

When does stocking inventory in China cut delivery time?

Holding stock does not shorten the flight or the last mile. It cuts the days before the parcel moves, because nothing has to be bought or delivered to the warehouse first. For a daily seller, that is often the biggest part of the wait you can control. If you also want to compare China stock with a European warehouse, read China fulfillment vs an EU 3PL. What about Israel, Canada, Australia and New Zealand?

Same source and method, last 60 days, all parcels:

Australia (ParcelsApp)10 days5 to 19 days12,28613 Oct 2026
New Zealand (ParcelsApp)8 days5 to 12 days4,29014 Oct 2026

New Zealand had the tightest range of any market here. Import tax rules differ per country, so check them separately.

Frequently asked questions

Is 7 to 10 days realistic to the Netherlands?

As a median, yes. The ParcelsApp median to the Netherlands was 8 days in the 60 days to 14 October 2026, and 7 days for PostNL-delivered parcels. But the typical range was 5 to 16 days, so roughly one parcel in ten took longer than 16. Promise the range plus processing, and let fast deliveries be a pleasant surprise.

Do customs checks after July 2026 slow parcels down?

Not visibly in the data so far. The 60-day windows behind these medians run from mid-August to mid-October 2026, after the EUR 150 exemption ended, and the Dutch median was still 8 days. Delays now hit individual parcels with poor declarations rather than whole routes. Make sure product descriptions and values are precise.

Does express shipping pay off?

It depends on your margin. Express costs more per parcel and mostly helps higher-value orders. Test it as a paid checkout option before making it the default. Run the numbers per product in the margin calculator first, because a few euros of extra shipping can wipe out a thin margin.

What should I tell customers about delays?

Tell them before they ask. Send the tracking link with the shipping confirmation, explain the window in plain words, and email when a parcel stalls. Shopify's delay guide recommends early, honest updates and pointing customers to tracking. For long delays, a small goodwill gesture costs less than a chargeback.

Does tracking start when the order is placed or shipped?

Usually neither exactly. A tracking number is often created when the label is printed, but the first carrier scan only appears after handover. That is why a new link can show "no information" for a day or two. Say this in the shipping email so customers don't panic.

How do I handle a lost parcel?

Under EU consumer law, when the seller arranges delivery, the risk of loss only passes to the customer once they physically receive the goods (Directive 2011/83/EU, Article 20). So a lost parcel is your problem, not the buyer's. Agree in advance with your partner when a parcel counts as lost and who covers the reshipment.

Are delivery times worse in Q4?

Usually, yes. Shopify lists holiday peaks among the top causes of delay. Widen your delivery window from late November, set a clear last order date for Christmas, and remember that Chinese New Year 2027 (6 February) slows the weeks around it too.
